Your First Visit

During your first visit the doctor will do a thorough and comprehensive examination, including oral cancer screening. In preparation for this exam we will gather all necessary medical records, review your past history and x-rays and, if necessary, take any additional x-rays needed; this may include a full set of x-rays. All information willbe carefully evaluated so we can customize a treatment plan specifically to meet your individual needs.

Preventive Oral Hygiene

You will meet your hygienist. We consider this session to be one of the most valuable services we can provide to our patients. At this time, we will personalize your hygiene appointment and home care to maintain healthy gums. After all, your healthy, gorgeous, smile begins with a clean mouth.

Dental Plan for Treatment

A treatment plan taking your immediate needs, as well as long term objectives, into consideration will be presented. Our goal is to help you keep your teeth for a lifetime. You are encouraged to ask any questions you have concerning your dental treatment and potential costs. If teeth were previously lost or others cannot be saved, we will be happy to discuss replacement of missing teeth.

Appointment Confirmation

As a courtesy, our office will give you a reminder call by telephone. It is important that you realize your appointment time is specifically dedicated to you. If you cannot keep your reserved appointment, please inform us at least 48 hours in advance so we can offer/accommodate another patient with this reserved time.

Referrals

We’re always happy to meet new patients. The greatest compliment we can receive is a referral of a friend or loved one.

Our Commitment to Infection Control

Long before AIDS became an international emergency, Dr. Schwartz studied the subject of infection control and diseases at dental school. To keep abreast of changes, improved technology and methods, we regularly attend seminars and clinics on the subject and conduct focused staff meetings at our office that deal specifically with infection control and its management. We monitor our procedures closely, and we spare no effort or expense to preclude the possibility of exposing either a patient or a staff member to infection during the treatment process.

To help reassure you about the high level of precautionary care we continue to provide, we are outlining the procedures we use to safeguard your health.

Disposables
We have always used disposable instruments and equipment whenever possible. Additionally, our biohazardous waste is handled through a reputable, state licensed company.

Barrier Techniques
Long before the Centers for Disease Control or the Florida Department of Professional Regulation mandated the use of “Barrier Techniques” such as gloves, masks and protective eyewear, these were routinely used by every staff member involved in our treatment procedures.

Handpieces/Sterilization
All of our instruments, hand pieces and high-speed drills are routinely sterilized in the most advanced, effective equipment available today. We use steam autoclaves, a thermal disinfector, ultrasonic cleaners and wrapped sterile instrument cassettes to achieve and maintain sterility. This is state-of-the-art infection control.

Treatment Room Sanitizing
Items in our treatment rooms—chairs, handles and x-ray units—are protected by disposable covers. We discard, replace with new and thoroughly disinfect each treatment room after every appointment.
